Principal Strategist and founder of Hill and State Strategies, Alyssa N. Batchelor, M.S. is a seasoned political strategist and advocate based outside of Washington D.C. who has spent her career in electoral politics and government helping to elect progressive leaders and make smart policy decisions around the country. In 2023, she founded Hill and State Strategies to help progressive candidates and causes more effectively communicate their message, achieve better results in their organizations, and do politics better. In her community, Alyssa serves as the Vice-Chair for the Fairfax County Commission for Women, a Board Member of the Marymount University Alumni Board, the Communications Director for Virginia Justice Democrats, and a Candidate Mentor for Run for Something. She previously served on the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Citizen Advisory Committee and OAR Northern Virginia. Her work, talent, and contributions have been recognized by professional and community organizations as a 2023 recipient of The Leadership Center for Excellence’s Northern Virginia 40 Under 40 Award, a two-time nominee for GAIN Power’s Powerful IDEA Award for Transformational Talent & Leadership, and a nominee for the American Association of Political Consultants 40 Under 40 Award. ​ Alyssa is a graduate of The Campaign School at Yale and holds a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Political Science where her research centered around the interrelation of power dynamics and socioeconomic marginalization and its effect on political participation. Her analysis of socioeconomic policy in Brazil was published in the Journal of Advocacy, Research, and Education in 2015. Prior to founding Hill and State Strategies, she served as a Legislative Assistant in the Virginia House of Delegates and as the Director of Political Research with The Mellman Group in Washington D.C.
