Tomacene Lipscomb Nickens

Vice President of the Bethlehem NAACP, Liberty Class of 1969

Mrs. Tomacene Lipscomb Nickens is a prominent member of the class of 1969. She is extremely proud of her family's four generation legacy of BASD graduates. In fact, one of her grandchildren is a member of Liberty’s 100th class.

After graduating, Tomacene attended Cheyney University before returning to Bethlehem.  She immediately went to work for the BASD, spending the next thirty-seven years as a Teaching Assistant and ASPIRE Site Coordinator.  Tomacene looks back on her years in the district with great adoration and found these experiences to be extremely rewarding.  Currently, Tomacene serves as the Vice President of the Bethlehem NAACP, Youth Advisor, Education Chair and advisor the NAACP clubs at Liberty and Freedom. In addition, she chairs the city of Bethlehem Civil Service Board for Police and Fire. As a result of her significant dedication to the community, Tomacene received the YWCA Woman of the Year Award for 2005. She is married to H. Brian Nickens and has three wonderful daughters, Tammy, Tara, and Shamara. Tomacene is also blessed to have three grandchildren, Zaire, Malakhi, and Lysis.
