Michele Moser Deegan, Ph.D.

Dean of Academic Life at Muhlenberg College, Liberty Class of 1984

Michele Moser Deegan

Michele Moser Deegan is the Dean of Academic Life at Muhlenberg College and Professor of Political Science. She is a 1984 graduate of Liberty High School.

She received her B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S. from DePaul University, and Ph.D. in Public Administration from New York University. With nearly 30 years of higher education experience, Michele has focused her research, coursework and community engagement on issues of equity and inclusion. In 2007 she was the founding director of the Lehigh Valley Research Consortium, which is a research center created by faculty from our local private colleges that partners with organizations to examine issues of regional importance. As an educator, she teaches courses that explore issues of inequality and the opportunity gap and in 2015 co-created the College Admissions Mentoring Program, which connects college students with under resourced high school juniors and seniors at William Allen High School who need assistance with the college admissions and financial aid processes. As Dean, she is helping to expand opportunities for Muhlenberg students to access resources and programs that level the playing field for everyone. She also currently serves on the Board of Pinebrook Family Answers. Michele owes her interest in becoming an educator to her mother, a public school teacher for over 40 years. Her passion for community service developed through her youth growing up in the tight-knit community of Fountain Hill and she traces her interest in public policy to her involvement in student government at Liberty High School. In addition to Michele, her husband William and two daughters are also proud LHS alums!
